Lynxly needs certain Discord permissions to work. The invite link from lynxly.xyz requests these by default. This page explains what they’re for and how to fix permission issues.
Recommended permissions
When you invite the bot, Discord shows a permissions list. Recommended permissions include:
| Permission | Why Lynxly needs it |
|---|
| View channels | See channels so it can read messages and respond to commands. |
| Send messages | Reply to commands and send logs or welcome messages. |
| Embed links | Send rich embeds for logs, help, and welcome messages. |
| Attach files | Optional; for log exports or file-based features. |
| Read message history | Useful for logging edits/deletes and context. |
| Use slash commands | Required for slash commands (e.g. /help). |
| Kick members | For the kick command. |
| Ban members | For the ban command. |
| Moderate members | For timeout/mute (e.g. 10-minute timeout). |
| Manage roles | For role-based mute or assigning roles (if used). |
Exact names may vary slightly in the Discord invite screen; accept the recommended set unless you want to limit the bot’s abilities.
Invite link
Use the official invite from lynxly.xyz or the Dashboard. That link is built with the right permissions. If you edited the permissions when inviting and something doesn’t work, re-invite using the same link and approve the requested permissions.
Who can use Lynxly commands?
- Everyone — Commands like
help or serverinfo are usually usable by all members (in channels the bot can read).
- Moderation — Commands like
warn, kick, ban, mute should be restricted to moderators or admins. Lynxly may check:
- Discord permissions (e.g. Kick Members, Ban Members), or
- A mod role you configure in the Dashboard.
If your staff have a specific “Mod” or “Staff” role, configure that in the Dashboard under Moderation or Roles so only they can use mod commands.
Channel-specific permissions
Lynxly only works in channels where it has:
- View channel
- Send messages (and Embed links for embeds)
If the bot doesn’t respond in a channel, check that its role (or channel overrides) has these permissions in that channel. Avoid denying View channel or Send messages for the bot in channels where you want to use it or receive logs.
Log and welcome channels
For the log channel and welcome channel:
- The bot must have View channel and Send messages.
- For embeds, it needs Embed links in those channels.
If logs or welcome messages don’t appear, check the bot’s permissions in those specific channels.
Re-inviting the bot
If you limited permissions when first inviting and now need more:
- Use the same invite link from lynxly.xyz or the Dashboard.
- Select the same server.
- Approve the full set of requested permissions (you can review the list before authorizing).
- Discord will update the bot’s permissions.
You don’t need to kick the bot first; re-authorizing with the new permissions is enough.
